According to KTLA, a man was killed in a car accident on the 60 Freeway in Riverside on Sunday, July 15, 2018.
The car accident was reported around 3:30 a.m., when a wrong-way driver in a 2002 Ford Mustang was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes on the 60 Freeway near Orange Street.
As a result, the Mustang slammed head-on into a 2012 Dodge Caravan, which had two occupants.
Due to the impact, the Dodge crashed into the center divider, killing the passenger in the Dodge. The passenger, identified as 23-year-old Shanilka Mapatuna of Moreno Valley, was pronounced dead at the scene of the car accident.
The driver of the Dodge and the driver of the Mustang both sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. Their condition remains unknown.
The cause of the fatal wrong-way car accident remains unknown and is currently under investigation. Investigators are trying to determine if the wrong-way driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
No arrests have been made, since the car accident is still under investigation.
